Christmas gift ideas

Most people have probably already started their Christmas shopping by now, I however am slightly less organised and have only sorted a couple of presents so far - ahhh! I've been doing alot of my gift browsing online rather than on the highstreet this year due to being so busy but also it being so damned freezing! I thought I'd share a favourite website of mine filled with individual and cute gifts for any of those stuck for present ideas for their friends/family:

Ohh Deer is a beautifully designed website with a wealth of illustrated items to choose from, a variety of artists have produced items for sale meaning there is something to everyones taste on there :) My favourite are the cushions, I would love to have at least ten of them brightening up my room! I own a gorgeous notebook of theirs which makes writing notes for work much more exciting (I'm a bit of a sucker for cute stationary) and I've got a couple of prints or maybe a sweater in mind for my sister's xmas present. Have you seen anything you like on Ohh Deer?

Follow Ohh Deer here and like them here :)

Instagram

I'm loving the new Instagram online profiles :) Although it does tend to highlight the low quality of some of my photos seeing them on a larger screen! Nevertheless Instagram is fun and as an arty person I love the idea of sharing photography with others :) Check mine out here: http://instagram.com/vanillaa
And send me yours! x

Exciting news!

I currently intern with the UK team of a touring International Theatre company and have been given the amazing news that they want to employ me officially in January. It's very exciting and also relieving for me as a recent graduate I have been worrying so much about finding a full-time job, what with the atrocious state of the job market at the moment. Part of my job next year will involve touring with one of the acting teams and the company's Director for two months in The Netherlands which I'm really looking foward to. I have been thinking about travelling since I left university and now my wishes have come true! So hopefully - as long as I have time - there will be lots to post about it all on here in 2013 :)

Weekly wants: Wall Lighting

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

I'm in the process of redecorating my room and therefore constantly on the look out for quirky and inspiring wall art. Lately I've been considering some sort of wall lighting - I'm a huge fairy lights fan and hardly ever have my main light on late evening so something bright and interesting to look at wouldn't go a miss in my room. Here are just a few of my favourite recent finds: Although most of the above are just designs/art Urban Outfitters are handily selling neon lighting at the moment in every letter of the alphabet for £40 each, I also quite like the idea of a phrase of word though. I love the film Drive (a must see if you're a Ryan Gosling fan - who isn't ;)) and a sign in this style is the epitome of cool to me!

Belated Halloween Post!

Halloween is so fun :) I had to work on the 31st but still made sure I got to do some Halloween inspired baking and pumpkin carving with a freind this week which was very enjoyable! What did you get up to this Halloween?

Flickr Faves

I'm well and truly addicted to the photography website Flickr.com and I love to trawl the 'Most Interesting' pages as well as all my contacts and group uploads - it's such a thriving hub of creativity and a huge source of inspiration for me as a photographer. I'm also obsessed with favouriting people's photos and checking my stats! :)

I thought I'd share some of my favourites which recently, have been of the Polaroid variety. I own a gorgeous vintage Polaroid Land 1000 which I love but am always out of film for! I go through phases of justifying the steeply priced Polaroid film and not really feeling like it's worth it as the images sometimes don't expose well or at all. This week I've been very tempted to purchase some colour film from The Impossible Project, and have found my inspiration in the beautiful subdued, lazy hues and simplistic compositions of the photographs below...:

1.Sunrise - Ashley Saldana  2.Woods and Light - Jennifer  3.Gotland - Radoslaw Grabowski
4.The Wall - Michael Houmann  5.Eiffel Tower - Emmanuella Zachariou  6.38/366 - Julie David

Lately I've been listening to...

1. Wicked Game (Chris Issac) Cover - Widowspeak
2. No To Love - Jessie Ware
3. They Always Fly Away- Blouse
4. Bikes (Peace Remix) - Lucy Rose
5. Don't Fall In Love - Still Corners
6. Follow - Crystal Fighters
7. 1998 (Delicious) - Peace
8. Weirdo - The Vaccines
9. How Do You Do? - Hot Chip

Wintery

Hello Blogspot :) generic first post here! I've just spent the evening snuggled down in a thick knit jumper with a cuppa at my side, trying to figue out how to get my layout and profile looking how I want. Calm-shores is going to be a place for sharing art, photography and illustration inspiration combined with fitness, fashion, music and baking - a bit of a mish-mash of all things that make me happy really... hope you enjoy! :)
